DAILY PROCEDURE
FIRST:
Students have a directive: When they walk in they are to pick up a lesson from the Drops in the Bucket workbook.
They are to complete two sections everyday, the first 5 minutes of the day.
What you will Need List is on the board for today's lesson: They are to write their assignment and
their problem of the day or homework down. Homework is given every Tuesday and due Thursday every week. Homework
is no more than 10 problems, usually. Quizzes are every Friday usually 10 problems and it covers the weekly concepts
.
SECOND:
Helping hand for the day takes attendance slip to office.
THIRD:
I model a lesson. Usually the first 5 to seven problems are done with them, this will include:
modeling, student participation, a presentation, a review of procedures etc. Normally the first 45 minutes.
FOURTH:
The students are given their assignment and I observe, assist and monitor as they work on their assignment.
I constantly answer questions and model for a few or stop the class to model for all on the dry board or use manipulatives.
OTHER PROCEDURES:
CHALLENGE/ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES
Those who finish early have a selection of related activities or review type of activities to
choose from. For example: go to the computer and do a study Island lesson or activity: use geometric shapes to relate
to fractional parts; decimal, fraction or percentage cards to place in order, tangrams, use tiles (with numbers written
on them, to solve for the missing number these are in plastic sleeves), etc.
ASSIGNMENTS ARE TO BE PLACE in an assigned drawer. One drawer for each
Class. I have 3 classes. They are collected daily.
PROGRESS REPORTS are sent home weekly on Friday's to be signed and returned by
Monday.(documentation that you are up to date with your child's school work. THIS IS A BIG problem. Most students do
not bring them back usually they confess that they didn't show it to the parent. I get about a 35% returned.
Copies of Progress Reports are available upon request. Memos are on the progress reports lookout for them some are parent
conference request.
Vocabulary is reviewed with the lesson. I recommend to students to create
a word bank using a spiral notebook, giving examples of how it was used when it was introduced. Write example problems
covered using that word. Notes are also given. Some in worksheets others they are expected to write in their math
folder or spiral.
.
TUTORING from 3:05 p.m. to 3:40 p.m. daily except during staff meeting
or an absence. Wednesday will be designated to department math meetings.(pending 2008-2009)
LATE WORK:
GT students: NOT ALLOWED only with an absence.
Follow handbook policy on make up work. It is up to the child to request missed work due to an absence. This is
a time related issue to be address the day they return from the absence.
